String quartets for the 21st century

"As an aspiring musician from a small country town, his program gave me confidence to pursue music at the tertiary level and I feel very fortunate to have been invited to participate in such a wonderful initiative".

Ellen Block, 1st Violist, Hamilton (HQ) Quartet 2012 – 2015.

Students in remote areas have often lacked access to the arts. This is predominantly due to a lack of proximity to teachers able to deliver specialist classical music training. Professional violinist and gifted educator, John Noble has developed a unique String Quartet Training Program that harnesses technology that every student has - access to iPads/tablets and computers, to deliver tailored music programs to remote students.

By connecting through the Internet, John Noble has refined an exciting method of training young musicians in string quartets around regional & rural Victoria. He regularly mentors quartets in Hamilton, Bendigo, Shepparton as well as Wyndham Vale & Sunshine in the Western suburbs of Melbourne.

Continuing throughout 2017, John’s program has the financial support of Orchestra Victoria and some very special philanthropists.

John Noble’s Quartet Program not only provides young people in remote locations the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded musicians, but an opportunity to socialize and connect within their communities.

John Noble's Quartet Program is an exciting and innovative method of training young musicians in the art of chamber music. The program harnesses online technology to deliver tailored music programs to students of regional & rural Victoria. Each quartet receives monthly mentoring sessions with John Noble and other gifted musicians. They are supported by their local community, schools and government. This partnership provides a rehearsal space with all of the technical support to deliver inspirational coaching via Skype. Performance opportunities are provided at local civic and community events allowing the students to gain in confidence and potential. This program not only provides young people in remote locations the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded musicians, but an opportunity to socialize and connect within their communities. All quartets are linked to professional ensembles from around Australia, affording them unique mentoring experiences. Once a year all quartets come together and perform alongside their professional mentors in a full string orchestra. We currently have six quartets across Victoria. This will grow to ten by 2018. Exciting opportunities for growth nationally and internationally will occur in 2019.

John Noble's Quartet Program© (JNQP) was founded in 2008. John commenced with two String Quartets with the support of local municipalities and philanthropists (ongoing) in metropolitan Melbourne.

In 2011, John approached Orchestra Victoria with the opportunity to run his exciting & innovative String Quartet Training Program under the umbrella, and alongside O.V.'s ground-breaking “mOVe" program (to which John is a Foundation Tutor and coordinator). John's Program currently has String Quartets in Wyndham Vale, Hamilton, Shepparton, Sunshine & two Quartets in Bendigo. John Noble is looking to further expand his program nationally and internationally in 2018/19.
